Foggy day

Today started off foggy and has remained that way into the afternoon. Another goat mama had a baby about an hour ago. Another boy…*sigh* I think our total number of babies is 21? They’re having them so fast and close together this year!!

On the fiber front, I ordered weaving yarn from Yarn Barn of Kansas last night. I also ordered some knitting yarn from Knit Picks!
Let me just sing praises for Yarn Barn for a moment. I have ordered from them a few times and have always been very impressed with their customer service. This order was no different. A woman from YB-KS called me this afternoon to let me know that two of the cones of yarn I ordered are on back order right now but that they will ship the rest of my order today or tomorrow and the back ordered stuff will be shipped as soon as it comes in. Did you catch that she CALLED to tell me that?! Normally you just get an email. They may be a few dollars more expensive, but at least I know my yarn is in good hands. 🙂

I ordered my Christmas present from the in-laws too along with my Yarn Barn order. I gets tools fir Christmas! Yay!! 🙂 Weaving tools, but still. Totally fun.

The Knit Picks yarn will be for more felted wool toboggan hats and more felted woven clutch bags! What fun!! Now I just have to make time to make all this stuff…I’m afraid very soon I shall have to become a complete hermit again…
Well I need to head back out to the barn to check on things with the new goat mama and make sure no one else is delivering!

Potato soup

Happy New Year! A brand new year is ahead of us and already off to a great start. Here’s an update on what’s been going on.

I was approached last week to join the TACA membership committee! I was (and still am) in shock! Why on EARTH would they want someone as young as me on ANY committee?! I guess they’re probably trying to attract younger people to TACA so perhaps that’s why…Everyone there will likely be nearly twice my age…Eek. But I have accepted and have my very first meeting on Friday of this week!

Birthing season is in full swing here on the farm! Our first set of twins was born the day after Christmas, twin girls, Joy and Noelle. 🙂 That was Gloria. Then on the 30th we had THREE more mamas deliver: Bashful had twin boys, Hoss and Bat (Hoss because he’s huge and Bat because he came out like a bat out of hell!). Brownie had twins as well, boy and girl. Wiggle is the boy because he would NOT stop wiggling at birth and Miss Independent or Indie for short. Pickles also had a baby that day who we named Melody Pond (a character from Dr Who…)
Another mama, Dark Kisses, delivered twin boys in the middle of the night on New Years Eve. We named them Matterhorn and Alps.
Scrappy had her babies without assistance but lost one of them, the girl. 😦 Her boy survived and we named him Dappy because he’s a dapper, young fellow.
Then yesterday we woke up to find Fluffy had delivered a baby boy who we named Jack Frost because his ears were completely frozen when we found him!
Today we’ve had two births: Ziggy had a girl, Twiggy, and Barbita had a twin boy and girl! So 14 babies in the past week!! I believe we’re expecting somewhere around 60+ babies this year! WE NEED MORE PASTURE!!!!

I haven’t gotten to weave much this week because I’ve been so busy with other things. Yesterday Ben and I fenced a new pasture for our beef cow herd. They were hesitant to go in at first but they seem happy now. I spent a good part of today fencing the last line of electric over there today.

I am making baked potato soup for dinner and I can’t WAIT!! 🙂 I don’t think I burned the white sauce on the bottom of the pan this time either. Maybe a bit, but not bad.

I came in the main house to go to the bathroom yesterday morning and found a goat and her baby in the shower, blocked off like a stall…I wasn’t actually surprised at all. At Fall Creek Farms, you just never know where you’re going to see a goat!

Life is so busy but so good. Only another two months until my sheep start having babies! And three of our cows have already delivered their calves. We’ll have another one in April.

I don’t get to blog much anymore because I don’t have internet at my house (that’s a real BUMMER!!) But I write posts in my head all the time and never get to write them down. Hopefully in the next few months (“few” actually can mean 3-11 so I think I’m covered) we’ll be able to finish our house. I can’t WAIT to have my own kitchen again!! …And bathroom…. 😀 Have to go for now. I need to start thinking about what else I have to do before milking tonight.
